Acadia National Park - Part 2

Cadillac Mountain - Sunrise

Early Bird gets the treat - 09/04:

Both of us ( me and my friend) are into photography and the best pics are the ones right before the sunrise. I am not a great photographer but i love the time right before sunrise and right after sunset. The sun announces its arrival and departure by painting the sky in various colors.

We started to drive to go to the Cadillac mountain but ended up at a small beach near our campsite. The water was so still and it was so peaceful that it almost felt like a dream. I felt like i wa still in my sleep. The sun rose in a few minutes and every living thing around us just woke up. The beach is a nice spot for a small break or getting a tan. The water however was cold when i tried to get in - failled attempt.

After clicking like close to 50 pics we headed for our coffee. The town in Acadia is very small but the coffee shop and deli open up early so you don't need to carry a lot of cooking materials with you. After getting our coffee we ended up in another beautiful place called Jordan Pond. There are a few hikes that start either from the pond or a bit ahead. You can ask for details about these hikes at the visitors center. We ended up doing the hike around the pond which took us about 2 hours.

The hike around the jordan lake is easy with least amount of climb but at some spots you might have to jump some rocks. I saw some tourists with dogs so i believe dogs are allowed on the hike. The pond is a drinking water supply and swimming in the pond is banned but Acadia has an amazing beach and you can cool off in the ocean.
Jordan Pond- Acadia National Park
The hike at Jordan lake opened up our appetite so the next stop from the lake was bar harbor which has a beautiful scenic walkway with lobster and seafood restaurant all around. After getting some lobster roll for lunch we prepared ourselves for a sea kayaking trip.

I had heard about sea kayaking but had never ventured into it. I guess Maine was the right place to try it out. The only issue with sea kayaking was that it was a 4 hour trip and for a beginnner like me 4 hour kayaking is like climbing Mt. Everest. My friend and I were exhausted by end of the trip. The sunset over the sea while kayaking to the shore was simple splendid. One of the very few times when you want to stop crying about sore muscles is when you see a beautiful sight over the Atlantic.

We called it a day after the kayaking trip. We did not have the energy to start a fire so all we did was take a warm shower and headed back to our campsite for a beautiful starry night in Acadia National Park.

Incredible Wave - Utah

Wave / Vermillion Cliffs / Coyote Butte Location : Coyote Butte is located near Kanab Utah. The road to the trailhead is rough but one does not need a high clearance vehicle. Accommodation : I did see someone camp near the trailhead not sure if it is allowed. However, Kanab is a town and lot of accommodation can be found here. I used airbnb for my trip to Kanab. Kanab has a visitors center that will give you all the necessary information related to accommodation and restaurants. Hike : The hike to Wave is close to 6 miles and so be ready to walk in sand and on rocks. It can be managed by a novice hiker. I did do a mistake of going to Wave in June right in the middle of summer and the heat made hiking a bit of challenge. However, when you reach the Wave you will realize it is so much worth it. If you do go on this hike in summer make sure you carry enough water and be ready to walk on sand dunes. Access : In order to go to Wave one needs to apply fo...

Acadia National Park - Celebrating Labor Day Weekend - Part 1

Since the time i have been involved with outdoor activities i have been bias towards the West Coast. Somehow i ended developing this mental block where i started believing all the natural wonders in USA were in the West Coast. Being in finance i have always lived in the East Coast ( NYC to be more specific) and ended up planing a trip to Acadia National Park for the labor day weekend. My mental block just broke as soon as i stepped in Acadia. The park just engulfs you in its beauty and added to the beauty are its vast open seas shores, light houses and bald eagles. The Park has something for every one, you could be old and decide to sit on the beach and enjoy lobsters or you could be young and adventurous and  end up finishing the Preipice trail. The park offers something for everyone. My day began at 4:00 AM in the morning on Sept 04, 2015: The drive to Acadia from NYC is long about 8 hours as per google maps but you could end up taking about 10 hours easily if you lov...

Kaaterskill waterrfall - a foggy Sunday morning hike

Kaaterskill Waterfall Oct, 02, 2016. Aug to Oct are my hiking months and the same is true for many people interested in outdoors, simply because these are the months where the temperature is not too hot and not too cold. Less sweat and more fun. This season is different because i ended up trying a trail in Catskill mountains and not the usual Hudson valley hikes. The Catskill mountains are close to New York City and can be reached within 2 hours by car. Most of the residents of NYC do not own a car and so try to avoid these mountains. However, they are worth the visit especially during the month of October.  The mountains are covered with fall colors and the waterfall add the missing beauty to these mountains. A very useful website for exploring the Catskill mountains is http://www.visitthecatskills.com/waterfalls   But note that when i visited Kaaterskill falls the actual fall was not like the image you see in the website. I think if you go in spring...
